Travelling

Travelling enriches your knowledge. It enables you to learn a lot that you can’t get from books. It helps you to see new customs, eat new foods, and do new things. And you come back home with a broader mind. Travelling also helps you to make new friends. Wherever you go, you are bound to meet with people. And the contact on this special occasion, whether between travelers themselves or between travelers and the native people, can often bring about friendship more easily. A kind help, or even a brief heart-to-heart chat, for example, sometimes can earn you devoted and ever-lasting friends.

However, travelling may cause some problems. First, it is inconvenient to book the tickets. Second, you turn to become too exhausted with the buses and trains being overcrowded. Finally, travelling costs much money and time. So, it is clear that travelling has its advantages and disadvantages. Which Mode of Travel Do You like?

With the general standard of living improving and the working week becoming shorter, more and more people are able to make a holiday trip to places of interest. While many like to join package tours for convenience, I prefer to travel on my own.

I like travelling on my own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and freedom. Travelling on my own, I’m my own boss; and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary, in a package tour you’re deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle, you have to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight of the little waving, you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to his strict schedule, regardless of the weather or your health condition.

True, you may encounter inconveniences if you travel individually, for instance, getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which it vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.

My Favourite Form of Transport in Travelling

Whenever we have decided on the place where we will spend a coming summer vacation, there is always a heated discussion as to the means by which we wish to travel. Among the various forms of transport we students can afford, trains are the most popular means, but I prefer to travel by ship.

Admittedly, travelling by train is much faster than by sea. But hardly anyone can positively enjoy sitting in a smoky, stuffy and crowded train compartment for more than a few hours. Stuck among human flesh, you either feel too uncomfortable to say anything or fall asleep most of the time to the monotonous rhythm of the wheels clicking on the rails. By comparison, travelling by ship is an interesting and rewarding experience. Low cost apart, it offers us a rare opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery at sea or along the banks of a river. Although a sea journey takes a longer time, it never worries a student who has a two-month long vacation. To me, the trip itself is part of the holiday: during the journey, I can make new friends, meet interesting people, play games of different kinds, or simply relax myself on the spacious decks.

A ship is to me a place of refuge, a restful pause in life, and this is what I badly need: to relieve the strain of a whole year’s studies on the campus.
