This ancient city is known to the world as Angkor Watafter its most beautiful temple, but the true wonder is the city itself, which is actually called Angkor.
The first temples were completed in the eighth century by early Khmer(高棉)king Jayavarman and his heirs(继承人)kept building on his project. The whole of Angkor was built over a period of about 600 years. It never stopped. It was to recreate in Hindu mythology(印度神
话)the Mount Mira, the Hindu Heaven. And the kings wanted to raise themselves to a god-like
position and progressive kings enlarged upon it. And so it just grew and grew. Each king wanted to build another temple. They were trying to create Heaven on Earth.
The flourishing jungle heaven they created certainly caught the attention of the neighboring kingdom of Siam—now known as Thailand(泰国). After one hundred years of off-and-on battle, the
Thai armies began to get the upper hand. At the end of it, the Cambodian people were worn out. Their resources had run out. The Thais had a relatively easy victory when they finally seized Angkor in 1431. But a mystery surrounded their victory. Without warning the Thai armies deserted Angkor as suddenly as they conquered it and to this day, no one knows why.
The Royal Court(朝廷)just walked away from Angkor completely. The couple of temples were repaired and visited from time to time. But basically they just turned their back on it. And the magnificent(宏伟)city became lost in the mists(薄雾)of time. Tales of this mysterious city floated throughout the jungles of Southeast Asia for centuries.
The locals were telling stories. There had been French naturalists through the area, but no one believed the tales. Then, in 1860 the French explorer Henri Mahout set out to find Angkor. One day he stepped into a jungle clearing and found himself walking through the imperial ruins of the ancient city. Over one hundred years later, the world is also beginning to understand the glory of Angkor.
For being a heavenly city that transcends(超越)time, Angkor rises to number three on our list. 1.The passage mainly tells us________. A.the discovery of Angkor Wat B.the ups and downs of Angkor Wat C.how the Angkor Wat was built D.how Angkor Wat was deserted 答案:B

Beginning next month, 14 excellent historic sites in the Hongkou District will bear anti-theft
name boards on their outside walls, district officials announced yesterday.
Its aim is to better protect historic sites because several bonze signs outside the former residences(住处)of famous writers—Guo Moruo, Ye Shengtao and Ding Ling—on Duolun Road, were recently stolen.
“We had no better way of preventing the same boards from being taken again,” Ge Jianping, an official of the Cultural Relics Management Commission of Hongkou District, said yesterday.
He said the signs were very probably stolen by garbage collectors for their bronze which can be sold to the city's waste recycling stations.
“The old boards were just coated with bronze and their content was a special steel that doesn't have recycling value,”he said.
The new grayandwhite signs, which are made of titanium, will be“tightly”fastened to the wall through a special material.
“No one can easily take the new boards away unless they break the wall”, said Ge, nothing that titanium doesn't have recycling value.
The 14 excellent historic sites which will receive new signs will include the former Ohel Moishe Synagogue on Changyang Road.
Other districts are also considering putting similar anti-theft signs outside their memorial sites.
Yang Jiguang, a Jing'an District cultural bureau(文化局)official, said, “We have designed a new marble-framed board for the excellent historic buildings in our district.” 5.The new signs are considered as“anti-theft”because they________.

解析:推理判断题。根据第四段“He said the signs were very probably stolen by garbage collectors for their bronze which can be sold to the city's waste recycling stations和nothing that titanium doesn't have recycling value.”可以判断答案是A。
7.“The 14 excellent historic sites”mentioned in the passage are located in________. A.Hongkou District B.Jing'an District
C.both Hongkou and Jing'an Districts
D.all the districts mentioned in the passage 答案:A
