I know a little of the history of my family. When I was a little girl, I was told that my family used to make a living on a farm in Ireland.
One of my most precious (珍贵的) things, which probably dates from about 1915, is a family picture. My great grandmother is sitting in a chair all stiff (呆板的) and formal with a group of babies around her. My great grandfather who was the main person of authority is standing behind her, but he is actually standing on man-made legs.
One by one the people in the picture left this world. My grandmother died at the age of 82, but in this picture she is about three. One of her sisters, Lena, lived longer than all of her brothers and sisters.
I once went to see Lena not long before she died and it occurred to me that she might not have seen this picture for many years. So I made a copy, framed (加边框) it and took it along as a gift. Unfortunately, by that time she wasn’t clear on who I was and hardly seemed to notice the gift. Later her son told me that she really liked it and had it placed on her bedside table.
Shortly afterwards she left this world, aged 94, and I was told that the family photo was on her bed when she died. She was the last of that group of eleven to go and I’d like to think that, in those last minutes, the family called her to go home.
59. According to the passage, we know that __________. A. the great grandfather had a disability
B. the family picture has a history of over 100 years C. there are 11 children in the family picture D. Lena couldn’t remember seeing the picture
60. Why did the author make a copy of the family picture for Lena? A. Lena was the only living member in the picture. B. Lena might not have seen the picture for a long time. C. She wanted Lena to remember her family members. D. She wanted to help Lena remember her more clearly. 61. The author wrote the passage _____________.
A. in memory of her family B. to show off her big family C. in memory of Lena D. to tell us a family story
C
Today, traditional opinions about men still exist. A man has to be strong, brave, sports loving
and manly (有男子气概的). Anything less would not be considered manly. Sports such as football, basketball and boxing all tend (往往是) to be men’s sports. However, ballet is considered feminine because it requires nice movements. This tradition is shown in the movie Billy Elliot. Billy Elliot is a movie that is against this traditional view of men. Billy Elliot is an eleven-year-old boy that has a natural talent for ballet dancing, but his father doesn’t like him to learn it. Billy’s father wants him to take up boxing and become stronger, but Billy goes against his father’s wishes and takes up ballet dancing. This difference in opinion between them makes Billy sad. What’s more, his friends also laugh at him.
After saving enough money, his father sends Billy to a weekly boxing course; however, Billy doesn’t enjoy boxing because he always loses in matches and is often hurt. His ballet teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, thinks that men and women should not be judged by the activities they like to do. So she tells Billy’s father that although he wants his son to make a good living, he should let his son do what he loves to do because he has a talent for it. When his father finally realizes the truth, he is surprised. In the end, with the help of his father, brother and all the other people around him, Billy goes to the Royal Ballet Academy in London and becomes a very successful ballet dancer. 62. The underlined word “feminine” in the first paragraph probably means “_____”. A. of women B. of children C. of men D. of students 63. Why is Billy laughed at by other children?
A. He always loses in boxing matches. B. He isn’t strong. C. He looks like a girl. D. He loves ballet. . What do we know about Billy according to the passage? A. He does what his father wants him to do.
B. He does well in both ballet dancing and boxing.
C. His teacher encourages him to take up ballet dancing. D. He has never taken up any men’s sports.
65. According to the traditional view of men, a man should _______. A. have a natural talent for sports B. follow his own interests
C. not be afraid of anything D. learn to fight to look manly

The first ancient Olympic Games for which we still have written records were held in 776 BC. Coroebus won the only event at the Olympics. This made him the very first Olympic champion in history. Then the Olympic Games grew and continued to be held every four years. In 393 AD, the Roman emperor Theodosius I, a Christian, put a stop to the Games.
In 12, a young Frenchman named Pierre de Coubertin suggested starting the Olympic Games again but failed. Two years later, Coubertin organized a meeting with 79 people representing nine countries. At this meeting he got what he wanted. All the delegates (代表) at the meeting voted for the Olympic Games. They also decided to have Coubertin found an international committee (委员会) to organize the Games. This committee became the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Demetrious Vikelas from Greece was chosen to be its first president. Athens was chosen for the revival (复兴) of the Olympic Games and the planning began.
The very first modern Olympic Games opened in the first week of April, 16. Since the Greek government didn’t have enough money to build a stadium, a wealthy Greek man, Georgios Averoff, donated over $100,000 to repair the Panathenaic Stadium built in 330 BC.

书面表达(One possible version) An Important Competition to Me
When I was in junior high school, my school held a sports meeting. Since I liked sports very much, I was very happy and signed up for the 100-meter race without hesitation. Unfortunately, however, I failed. It was then that I realized only having an interest in something is far from enough. Instead of being depressed, I exercised every day to make myself a better “athlete”. Anyway, it is more important to have the courage to participate, isn’t it?
In a word, that competition is important to me because it has taught me a lot. I nearly forget to tell you that I am now a member of our school racing team. 阅读附加题 1-5 BCACA

Violinist Vanessa-Mae was born in Singapore to an English father and a Chinese mother. At the age of three she took up the piano; at four her parents divorced, and she and her mother moved to England. At five, she switched from piano to violin, studying with Lin Yaoji at the Central Conservatory in Beijing and Felix Andrievsky at the Royal College of Music in London. At nine, Vanessa-Mae gave her first concert, and toured England with her mother, Pamela Nicholson, acting as co-manager. At thirteen she began her recording career. Her early recordings have been repackaged by Angel as The Classical Collection 1. She was a rising star in the world of classical music, but Vanessa-Mae also had some ideas of her own about music. As a teenager, she began experimenting with her talent, and released The Violin Player. It featured both traditional and electric violin, hit the UK pop charts, and went multi-platinum. In 1996, Vanessa-Mae won Best New Female Artist at the BRIT Awards, the first classical artist to do so.
