1. But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Consumed by regret， Jane stood hopelessly, starting to blame herself. “How could I be so irresponsible to leave Tom and walk away irrationally? ” Jane murmured。 Tears blurred her eyes as the unspeakable anguish wrung her heart. However, all of a sudden, Toms handsome face popped into her mind which reminded Jane of the significance of life. However harsh the present was， there was always a gleam of hope! On sober reflection， Jane determined to struggle a living。 She came back to the stream， drank some water, and went to sleep to save her energy。

2. It was daybreak when Jane woke up. To her great ioy, she heard a helicopter again！ She rushed to an open area， waving her yellow blouse frantically。 Fortunately, the helicopter seemed to notice her existence and flew downwards which blew away the gloomy clouds hovering over her head。 Jane jumped wildly into the air of excitement， waiting for the helicopter to rescue her。 Surprisingly, a few minutes later， Tom got out of the helicopter。 His face cracked into smile as he saw Jane standing there, safe and sound. They hugged tightly with tears streaming down their cheeks. Then they got on the helicopter together, heading to the lake which they were longing for。 Sitting on the seat， Jane felt unprecedented cosiness. Looking at Tom’s twinkling eyes， she promised to herself that she would never leave him again。

3. Filled with delight， Ali walked home quickly。 He could not wait to see his sister and share the thrilling news. On his arrival, Ali found Zahra was waiting outside. She was really nervous whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting. “Zahra， see what I have got for you。” He took the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands。 The instant Zahra saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw herself at Ali。 “Thank you! Ali。” Tears of joy welled up their eyes as the brother and sister hugged tightly together.

Then I saw my classmate Janet come out of a bathroom booth, tears streaming down her face. “Actually, I’m your secret friend； I’m terribly sorry about the gift。” she whispered to me， sobbing with her face hidden in her hands。 Frustrated and somewhat grieved， she explained that she couldn't afford a fancy present and her mother had given up the powder， the only luxury in her family. After a short silence， she ran out of the bathroom with some girls staring at her. Regretful and kind of embarrassed， I was sick to my stomach as my mean words ran through my mind。 With the water running through my fingers, I felt my throat was tightened as if a rock were stuck in it because I ruined everything she specially—prepared for me。

5. Everyone was shocked to see the blood—spattered mouth. A flood of horror welled up in Neil's wife。 The unbelievable fact went like a bullet to her heart。 She sobbed, hiding her face in her hands。 Neil shouted to the dog， fuming with rage。 He glared at the dog with burning eyes， screaming at the top of his lung。 It seemed that the dog was shocked by fear, trembling on the ground. Nevertheless, the dog was not able to say a word but to bark in a loud voice。

6. Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket， pulled out a ＄20 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then he picked it up and tapped the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, sir， this fell out of your pocket。” The man turned around and saw the money。 He knew what was going on ， he looked straight into my dad’s eyes， took my dad’s hand in both of his， squeezed tightly onto the ＄20 bill, and with his lip shaking and a tear running down his cheek, he replied， “Thank you， thank you, sir。 This really means a lot to me and my family.”

7. “Mama, stop. Mama, get up,” I tearfully pleaded. She stood， and brushed herself off. At first stunned, the others waiting in line began to sporadically clap， and before I knew it they were cheering and laughing and patting my mother on her back。 She blushed and took a little bow and

10the next thirty minutes in line was pure misery for me as various parents leaving the store， shake their heads at me and say with a smile, “Your mom got you good. I bet you'll never try that again。”And I didn't， because it left a lasting mental picture more effective than any physical mark。

8. Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. Startled by the white fluffy rabbit, the horse almost threw me off its back. I hurriedly tightened my grip and couldn’t help letting out screams。 But after we regained our calm， I was amused both by the thrill and the innocence of the little creature. Seeing it fleeing， cheerily， I turned to my dad， “Dad, can we follow it？” My dad nodded with a tolerant smile. Soon without consciousness， we were miles away up into the mountain and we lost track of the rabbit and of course， the track Uncle Paul had asked us to keep to.

9. With a smile, Mrs。 Willow comforted her, saying it had been broken before. Seeing Mrs. Willow’s sharp blue eyes filled with warmth and affection， Rachel felt extremely regretful for her clumsy behavior. “If I had been more careful， the disaster wouldn’t have happened。” Rachel knew what Mrs。 Willow said might be an excuse to relieve her uneasiness and embarrassment。 She made a resolution in her heart that from the day on she would never be so careless and swore to be a kind and thoughtful person like Mrs. Willow.

10. We scanned the mailboxes at number 17 and nearby buildings. However, what we did turned out to be in vain. The thought came to me that we had better give up while Avraham suggested checking the last building。 I had no choice but to accompany him。 Feeling desperate， Avraham prayed for God’s help in a whisper to find the right house with the uncertain address. We tiredly approached the entrance to the last apartment down the street. To our delight， some European names came into our sight。 Considering it as a good sign， we entered the entrance where we learned an elderly couple lived next door.
