I. Listening Comprehension Section A
Directions: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.
1. M: May I exchange some American Dollars here?
W: Please go upstairs and find C ounter No.3. That’s the foreign exchange counter. Q: Where does the conversation most probably take place?
2. M: Hello, I am interested in renting a house near the university.
W: Well, tell me how many bedrooms you are looking for. Q: What is the probable relationship between the two persons?
3. M: Excuse me, but can you tell me when the train leaves for Paris?
W:You’ve just missed one by ten minutes. Trains leave every half an hour.
Q: How long does the man have to wait for the next train? 4. W: So, are you excited about graduating and going to
college?
M: Actually, I haven’t been sleeping well these days. I think it’s difficult to decide which college to go to.
Q: How does the man feel about graduating and going to college?
5. M:Have you seen Michael around? We’re supposed to go to the lab together.
W: Well, his schoolbag is here on the desk. Q: What does the woman imply?
6. M: I spent so much time writing my letter of application. W:It’s wor thwhile to make the effort. You know just how important it is to leave a good impression.
Q:What do we know about the man?
7. W: We can either take our children with us to the cinema or to my mother’s house. M:Well, I’ll leave it up to you.
Q: Who will make the final decision?
8. W:I wonder who’d be willing to work on this committee. M: Well, you know more about it than anyone else. Q: What does the man mean?
9. M: Have you heard what George has been saying about your work?
W: Yes, I have. But to be honest, I couldn’t care less. Q: What does the woman mean?
10. W:Hi, John, how’s your project going?
M: Oh, just so so. You know, it seems less difficult to get financial support for the
project than to get trained men.
Q:What do we know about the man’s project? Section B
Directions: In Section B, you will hear two short passages, and
you will be asked three questions on each of the passages. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.
Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. The eight airlines of the One-world network have joined forces to give world travellers a simple way to plan and book a round-the-world journey. It’s called the One-world Explorer.
One-world Explorer is the perfect solution for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday or an extended business trip. You can have hundreds of destinations to choose from, because the One-world network covers the globe. And, as you travel around the world, you’ll have the support of 260,000 people from all our airlines, who are devoted to the success of your journey.
The One-world goal is to make global travel easier and more rewarding for every one of our travellers. We try our best to make you feel at home, no matter how far from home your journey may take you.
We can offer travellers benefits on a scale beyond the reach of our individual-net-works. You’ll find more people and more information to guide you at every stage of your trip, making transfers smoother and global travel less of a challenge. (Now listen again. )
Questions:
11. What does “One-world Explorer” in the passage probably refer to?
12. What is the most important advantage of One-world Explorer mentioned in the passage?
13. What kind of people will show great interest in this
advertisement?
Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. Not everybody reads the daily newspaper. People who do not read newspapers are sometimes referred to as non-readers. Early research has shown that non-readers are generally low in education, low in income, either very young or very old. In addition, non-readers are more likely to live in rural areas and have less contact with neighbours and friends. Other studies show that non-readers who tend to isolate themselves from the community, are less likely to own a home and seldom belong to local voluntary organizations. Why don’t these people read the daily paper? They say they don’t have the time, they prefer radio or TV, they have no interest in reading at all. And besides, they think newspapers are too expensive. Recent surveys, however, have indicated that the portrait of the non-readers is more complicated than first
thought. There appears to be a group of non-readers that does not fit the type mentioned above. They are high in income, and fall into the age group of 26-65. They are far more likely to report that they don’t have the time to read the papers and they have no interest in the content. Editor and publishers are attempting to win them back. Now they are adding news briefs. This will help overcome the time problem. And they are also giving variety to newspaper content to help build the readers’ interest.
(Now listen again. ) Questions:
14. What is typical of non-readers according to the early research?
15. What are the findings of recent surveys?
16. What are the editors and publishers doing to attract the non-readers?
Section C
Directions: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet.
Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.
W: Tom,I’ve heard that you want to move into a homestay family. Is that correct? M: Yes, that’s true.
W:Well, I’ll need to get some of your information. How long have you been in Australia?
M: A year in Sydney and 4 months in Melbourne. W: What is your present address at your aunt’s house. M: Flat one, five three nine Forest Road, Canterbury. And the post code is 2036.
W: Ok, what are you studying now?
M: I was studying General English in Sydney and now I am doing Academic English, because I am trying to get into Medicine next year.
W: That sounds good, but it will take you a long time. When would you like to move out from your aunt’s?
M: I’d better be out on Thursday. W: What, the 7th of September? M: Yes, that’s right.
Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation.
M:How often do you use the Internet?
W:I use it almost every day, but I usually only use it to check my email. You surf the Internet a lot, don’t you?
M:Yes. I use it to find products at the lowest price for our school. It can be annoying when connection is poor.
W:So, you’re online eight hours a day. M:Yes, I like the job, though.
W:How useful do you think the Internet is as a source of information?
M: I think it’s fairly useful, but there are two big problems. A lot of information you find online is false.
W: I agree.
M: The other problem is when you buy something online, you don’t see it until you actually get it.
W: That’s the problem.
M: Yeah, that has been puzzling me a lot. W: Then, how do you solve the problems?
M: What I do is to find the website of shops, and then visit the shop to see if the products are genuine and suitable.
W: Oh, that makes sense. 参考答案 第I卷

II. (one possible version) 1、

There is an old saying that there must be a use for my talent. I have regarded it as my motto for many years. From my point of view, there is no difference between one person and another. With some useful talent, you will make contributions to this society.
When I was 10 years old, there was an old man living at the corner of xx road. He didn’t have the opportunity to study in school, but he learned how to make wood furniture. Every time people went to ask him to solve some problems of furniture, he was willing to help them.
To my surprise, in his spare time, he would make some wood toys with small pieces of wood. Some of them were sold to the toy store and the others were given to us. The moment I saw the lovely toys made by this old man, I would remember the happy childhood.
From this old man, we can see that whatever kind of talent you have, you can find your own method to display your talent. The most important factor is your confidence. If you believe that there must be a use for your talent, you will succeed.
