One of my friends said, \"When I was reading this book, I felt I was totally falling in love with someone. \" This is the charm of The Sorrows of Young Werther. It tells us a sad love story which ends up with the protagonist(主人公)-young Werther's death.
Presented as a collection of letters written by Werther, this book is about this young artist of a highly sensitive and passionate temperament(性格). In these letters sent to his friend Wilhelm, Werther describes his daily life in a small village. He is deeply attracted by the beautiful nature there and falls in love with a charming girl named Lotte at first sight. However, Lotte has already engaged to a young man, Albert. Though this fact makes Werther very painful, he cannot help cultivating a close relationship with this engaged couple. As time goes by, Werther's affection for Lotte becomes so deep that he even cannot control himself. Having no other choices, Werther leaves this sad place. But the cruel reality outside makes him more frustrated.Then he returned to that small village, where he suffers more than before, for Lotte and Albert are married now. Out of pity for her friend and respect for her husband, Lotte makes a decision that Werther must no visit her so friquently. He visits her for the last time and makes up his mind to kill himself. Then he writes to Albert to ask for a pistol, under a pretence that he is going hunting, and shoots himself. Finally his suffering comes to an end. Though
