请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将项涂黑。

A.

New York City has the largest population of any city in the United States. But the more than 8 million people who live there may not have big sodas to match their big city for much longer.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has suggested a ban on giant sodas and sugary drinks sold at fast-food restaurants, street carts, delis and sporting events. The ban includes energy drinks and

presweetened iced teas. The Mayor says the ban is necessary to fight the rising rate of obesity. Obesity is when people have enough extra fat in their bodies to cause very negative effects on their health. Sodas contain lots of calories . Consuming too many calories may eventually cause a person to become overweight or obese.

Under the large-size drink ban, the biggest sweetened drink a person could buy would be 16 fluid ounces. This is a major change, because the most commonly sold soda bottle contains 20 ounces. Diet sodas, fruit juices, and dairy drinks(like milk shakes) get a pass - people could still buy the giant versions of those. Grocery stores or convenience stores that are not classified as delis would also be not included by the ban.

New York would be the first city in the United States to pass the law against soda ban. The New York City Board of Health is now holding public hearings on the proposal. The proposal will need the approval(赞成) of the Board, which will vote on the issue in September.

New Yorkers are divided on whether the ban is a good idea. Those who are against it say that people should be able to make their own choices about what they eat and drink. If the plan passes, New Yorkers would have until March 2013 to buy and suck down their last supersize soda in the city. 51. What will NOT be allowed to sell according to the plan?

A. Fruit juices. B. Diet sodas. C. Dairy drinks. D. Sugary drinks. 52. Where can you still buy the big sodas?

A. At sporting energy. B. At street carts. C. At grocery stores. D. At fast food restaurants. 53. The best title for the passage may be___________.

A. Sugary drinks are popular in New York City B. Nowhere to buy soda drinks C. Slimmer sodas in New York City D. The negative effects of big sodas

Why are people interested in eating raw foods or whole foods? One reason is that eating these types of food reduces the risk of acid accumulation(积累) in your body.

Raw and whole foods are usually digested more efficiently than cooked and refined foods. When we cook foods, we destroy the natural enzymes (酶) that are part of the food in its raw form. These enzymes were intended by nature to help us digest the food. When we consume food without these natural enzymes, our bodies either digest the food improperly or allow too many nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream. In both instances, the result is obesity(肥胖). When too many nutrients

A. there is a large amount of sulfur dioxide in the air C. they are starting to cough or have a fever D. they must be infected with permanent lung disease B. it is so cold that they may have caught a cold

are absorbed at once, the body grows fat. Improperly digested food moves slowly through the digestive tract(消化道), where it becomes increasingly acidic. To protect its vital organs from this acidic waste, the body changes the acid into fat and stores it safely away from the organs.

Processed foods contain chemical elements, which might confuse the appetite mechanism that tells us when we’ve had enough to eat; as a result, people often overeat. Processed foods also upset the digestive cycle. The body will either identify these foods as allergens(过敏原) and then store them safely away from the organs as fat, or the remains of undigested food will become acidic and enter the bloodstream as acid waste, which will stick to the blood vessel walls and block the passage of vital

oxygen and nutrients heading for the body’s cells. The body’s metabolism (新陈代谢) becomes inactive, and the result is weight gain and obesity.

The accumulation of acid in the digestive tract makes digestion increasingly inefficient. When that happens, even healthy foods can become acidic and the food allergies will become more common. To stop this vicious circle in its tracks, people need to consume food and supplements that will neutralize(中和)the acid already accumulated in body. Eating the right types of raw and whole foods can help. It’s also important to restore your enzyme balance. You need to identify and avoid the foods that cause acid accumulation and consume the foods that increase enzyme production. If you truly want to change and help your body heal itself, you need to take an active approach. 58. It can be inferred from Para. 2 that __________. A. we’d better be cautious about raw and whole foods B. foods with natural enzymes help people keep fit C. it is essential for people to protect their vital organs D. giving up cooked and refined foods is a new lifestyle 59. Processed foods are unhealthy because they __________. A. destroy body’s cells

B. are difficult to digest

C. may lead to obesity D. stop body’s metabolism 60. What is the main purpose of this passage? A. To warn people of the problem of obesity. B. To inform people of the harm of processed foods. C. To advise eating more raw and whole foods.

D. To tell the differences between raw and processed foods. 61. What is likely to be talked about following the last paragraph? A. Different causes of acid accumulation.

Recently our class have conducted a survey about whether you know your parents’ birthday or not. As we can see from the chart, 72% of us know parents’ birthday while 24% can only remember their mum’s or dad’s birthday. However, still 4% feel at a loss when asked about when their parents’ birthday is.

Although the majority of us can remember our parents’ birthday, we can’t ignore the fact that some of us can’t. This means that they care less for their parents in daily life.

In my opinion, it’s high time we cared more for our parents. For one thing, we should try our best to work hard at our lessons. For another thing, we’d better help them with the housework as often as possible. Only by doing so can we show our gratitude to parents and make them feel our love.
